What is Healing- An intorduction to Healing
To truly understand the meaning of healing I believe we have to first understand the meaning of health.
Health is a state of Total Physical, Mental, Emotional and Social Well Being. It does not just mean the absence of Illness or Disease.
Over the years’ society in general has started to become more aware of the importance of health and fitness. Nowadays doctors encourage us all to take far more responsibility for ourselves and offer all kinds of help and guidance in caring for ourselves right down to well woman clinics etc. Therefore it follows that one of the first principles of health is preventive care. To keep our bodies in good repair rather than trying to fix it when it goes wrong.
We are all well aware that we need a balance of fresh air, exercise, enough sleep, good food etc.
But unfortunately very few people really take these preventative facts seriously and continue to abuse their bodies. Often expecting the doctors and hospitals to pick up the pieces. We often eat hurried meals; convenience foods are very much a sign of the times.
We allow ourselves to lead stressful lives and feel guilty when we have time out to relax. Lots of people only allowing this to become a part of their lives when they have their annual holidays.
It is truly amazing, we hear people saying you look better for your holiday yet we do not hear what we are saying.
The simple reality of it is, to allow enough time in our lives to recognise all of our needs. Then to care for ourselves and start to work with the whole self.
Traditional Wisdom sees illness as a disorder of the whole person, involving not only the persons body but also mind, self image, dependence on the physical and social environment and relation to the cosmos.
Health involves looking at the cause of illness as well as the symptoms and learning to understand the meaning behind it all. Louise Hay has some excellent books out on this subject, including You Can Heal Your Life.
Never a truer word was spoken than the following quote "It is our natures that are the physicians of our diseases" - as said by Hippocrates who was an ancient Greek physician widely recognized as the "Father of Medicine
If your are suffering from illness then you need to understand the significance of the disease. Disease merely means Dis -Ease with oneself.
By looking at the illness and starting to recognise what it means you can then start to release yourself from the situations which fuel the illness.
This is where we often need to turn to Alternative Therapists for assistance as it sounds simple but can be very hard to get a handle on, or sometimes we understand but find it very hard to recognize the patterning.
In truth our bodies take a lot of Mis-use before it finally manifests within the physical as disease. Therefore there is much we can do to care for ourselves.
So What is Healing?
Healing is recognising that the body is not just Physical it is also Subtle.
Healing is about maintaining and restoring the natural balance within the whole.
Why not make this the time you decide to work with your Whole Self.
Book your self in for Massage or Healing somewhere, allow yourself to be pampered and equally as important allow yourself to Enjoy It. Feel no guilt.
Make a point of allowing yourself some quality time out to do what you enjoy and do not allow yourself to feel guilty about what else you Could / Should be doing.
Make sure you get enough sleep time.
Try to eat a balanced diet.
Take regular exercise.
Do this for 1 month and notice the difference in how you are looking & feeling.
